Netflix Wii streaming is coming soon

Nintendo gets into media delivery
Fri Mar 26 2010, 12:51

YOU'RE PROBABLY NOT EXPECTING THIS but you will soon as Jessie Becker, you know, Jessie from Netflix's marketing team blogged yesterday that Netflix will soon launch a streaming service over the Wii.

The Wii was never intended as a multi-media entertainment hub but it just turned out to be so darned popular that Nintendo decided to milk this bad boy until the cows come home.

In Jessie's own words, "We are in the final phase of getting ready for the launch of streaming to Wii. Today, we shipped out instant streaming discs for the Wii to some of our Netflix members."

Apparently the lucky few Netflix members had such a roaring hoot watching movies and TV episodes from Netflix via Wii that Nintendo and Netflix partnered up to co-launch a media streaming service.

It will be a free service but you will need to have an existing Netflix unlimited plan starting at $6 a month, plus a Wii and broadband of course. There's no word about a UK rollout yet. µ

Tried it out 3/27/10

Just got the Will disk from Netflix. Easy to set up, all it requires is an activation code entered at their website. Picture quality was good (1.5Mbit DSL) using a Wii with Component video to an LCD screen.

I did notice some slight hesitation in the picture motion a few times but it wasn't distracting.
