Game over for Sony motion controller

Unreleased Xbox will sell more than unreleased PS3
Mon Feb 22 2010, 08:23

According to a report on PS3Center.net an analyst is already predicting that Microsoft's Project Natal motion control add-on will outsell the PS3 equivalent by five to one.

projectnatalsensor-printBoth units are supposed to be released by the end of this year, and will add gesture based, movement controls to the handsets, much like the Wii did years ago, but even we think its a bit early to dismiss one. Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst Michael Pachter told PS3Center that Natal wil sell ten million units while Sony will only sell two million.

And the secret sauce in this selling plan? Well Microsoft will bung its add-on in console packages, while Playstation will have to sell it as a standalone, and will probably make people pay through the nose for it.

"I think that the Sony motion controller will have some problems gaining traction, since it is not an "in the box" solution. That will probably limit adoption to one or two million at the outset," Pachter told the website. "Natal is different... It's only one piece (the camera), is likely to be cheaper, and I think it will come in the Xbox 360 package with new consoles once launched, meaning far deeper penetration."

According to Pachter, games will also be a big selling point. Making us wish that we'd taken the analyst route after university.

ARC FTW

I've watched both demo's and am mostly wanting Sony's Arc system , but like my Wii before I got bored of it I don't think it'll hold my attention very long , perhaps the kids will prefer it.
I find the camera motion control unresponsive and annoying.

What?

This guy's predictions - from my experience - are very rarely on the money. And on this one I think he's way out.

The Sony motion control solution will be cheaper to make, cheaper to develop for and will sell for considerably less.

The success of the Wii and it's controller ensure two things for Sony. One, that it'll be able to port various titles from the Wii and that people will be familiar with mechanics of motion control.

From a developer standpoint - sure the Wii sells a heap of SKU's but they sell few games.

As for "bundles" - how on earth he can make this comment is beyond me. Sony will bundle this if there's a game that warrants it.

Natal is just a camera

Yeah, it's just a $200 camera!!! The full price of a Wii system or a X360 Arcade.
That said, since it's annoucement, there were no demos or whatsoever, which lead to some doubts if they can really make it work properly... Natal will even have to share X360 processor, just to add some more complexity.
It'll sure sell a buch bundled with X360, but I doubt it´ll be a top seller. Sony can bundle their stick/vibrator thing with PS3 as well, I can't see what could prevent them to do that.

You're having a LAUGH!

Yeah right, who going to take you (Michael Pachter) seriously?. In fact I think PS3 Sony Motion Controller can do well. Beside I don't have a large living room and I don't fancy dancing like a prick in order to play natal game on Xbox 360. I rather prefer to sit down on the sofa after a long day hard work and chill out. Natal is for spoilt rich little brat, bit like you Michael Pachter.
