ASUSTEK COMPUTER is laughing all the way to the bank thanks to its Eee PC range.

According to AP, while the bottom has dropped out of rest of the world, Asustek is expecting revenue will grow 26 percent to $834.3 million in September with the prospects for October and November even brighter

Chief Executive Jerry Shen said the Eee range, which is priced between $300 and $1,000, has been the saviour of the outfit’s bottom line.

In the year since the Eee PC has been on the shelves, Asustek has shipped about four million of the beasts.

Today it unveiled a new Eee PC model, the S101, aimed at Christmas shoppers in Europe and the United States that costs $699. The ultra-thin, ultra-light thightop weighs a kilogram and is a half-inch thick.

Shareholders have been less than impressed with Asustek. Despite making a killing, shares have tumbled 18 percent in the past month.

Part of the reason for this is that rivals who were caught on the hop by the success of the Eee PC have been looking to build some competition. By next year every man and his dog will have a budget PC on offer and Asustek’s future might not be so bright. µ
