New multimedia DS expected this year

Console round-up Slim Xbox 360 on the horizon

THE XBOX 360 outsold the Playstation 3 in Japan for the second week running, for the week ending September 21st. We doubt this fad will continue for too long.

Xbox 360
Microsoft has made the single largest marketing spend in its Xbox history for its largest global advertising campaign - spending more money on a series of promotions than it did for the launch of the Halo 3 or even the Xbox 360 itself.

This can only help the massive sales Microsoft is now seeing due to the recent price cut. The Xbox 360 has sold six million units in Europe following the price cut for all three SKUs. It seems we might also get an Xbox 360 slim next year, though people are already skeptical for good reason.

Don't forget that Duke Nukem 3D is now available on Xbox Live, and you'll even be able to see Duke Nukem Forever if you look closely....

PS3/PSP
45nm Cell processors are coming - in 2009. We might then see a slim PS3 combating the rumoured slim 360.

The UK centric Playtv for the PS3, has shipped over 85,000 units already, according to Games industry.biz.

Soon you won't even have to leave your PS3 to read a magazine - Future has announced an on-console Playstation 3 magazine, coming to your bedroom soon.

Wii/DS
According to Nikkei Net, and reported by Reuters, Nintendo is expected to release a multimedia DS this year. Nikkei states the new handheld will feature a built-in camera, music playback, improved wireless and larger screens.

It is suggested that the machine will be priced just above the DS, and is expected to be released in Japan before the end of this year. µ

Why are games for XBox and PS3 30% dearer than the same game on PC?

And why are people happy to pay 30% more for the same game that they could have on PC?

PC vs Console

You could say that paying 30% more for the same game is nonsense, but the PC doesn't have all the games available on consoles (read japanese RPGs, for example).

The day I can play God of War, Final Fantasy, Gran Turismo, Soul Calibur, among other on PC, I won't have to buy consoles anymore.
