Kentucky State cybersquats

Bid to stop gambling

THE STATE OF KENTUCKY has decided that the best way to hurt Internet gambling sites is to cybersquat likely domain names.

The State has snapped up 141 domain names of Internet gambling sites which are working and a few that are not.

Franklin Circuit Judge Thomas Wingate ordered the names transferred and sites like caribbeangold.com and sportsbook.com now belong to the State.

Kentucky will be the first US state to seize a gambling operation's domain name, Brown said.

Casino gambling is legal in Kentucky, but the state does not like online operations which are "leeches on our communities". Kentucky loses tens of millions of dollars a year to online gambling.

Kentucky's efforts follow on the heels of a 2006 federal law that forces US banks and credit card companies to block electronic transactions to Internet gambling businesses. µ

Cmon,legalize it already

Lol, gotta love the continued resistance of online gambling. Other countries have embraced it, tax it, and generate a lot of revenue because of it. The US, however, because of some backdoor addendum to a Port Security Bill, make online gambling illegal and spend taxpayer dollars to try and prevent it, which is unsuccessful because there are still hundreds of online poker sites.

I understand that certain states depend on revenue from casinos, I live in NJ about 40 minutes from Atlantic City, but online gambling is going to occur, so why not keep some of our money from going to offshore or other countries and maybe even generate a little money from people outside the US at the same time?

It is just sad that they continue to fight this. US Regulators and Congress manage to turn a blind eye on banks which has led to one of the greatest financial downfalls in history, yet they manage to keep their eye on things like online gambling.... Maybe they should pull their heads out of their whatevers and start worrying about real issues like the economy and getting us out of Iraq.

correction

Casino gambling IS NOT legal in good ol' KY. May become one day, but currently we have to go and visit the gambling boats in Indiana for this type of sin indulgence. The state allows lottery sales (such as powerball and instant lottery tix), but not casinos.
