Sony unveils wireless photo frame

Includes streaming and Picasa support

SONY HAS ANNOUNCED the launch of the Vaio CP1 wireless photo frame.

We thought most photo frames were wireless, but apparently this one is digital and Wi-Fi enabled, allowing people share their holiday snaps over the network as well as receive news via RSS and stream internet radio to the device.

The CP1 touts a seven inch screen boasting 16 million colours at 800x480 resolution.

The nifty part is that it can even connect to Google Picasa web albums, allowing users to view up to four web albums simultaneously and upload photos directly to a Picasa account.

"This new frame provides an easy way to retrieve and share these precious memories that otherwise would have been forgotten," gloated Xavier Lauwaert, the product manager for Vaio product marketing at Sony Electronics.

For those who want to keep it local, the CP1 has 128MB of internal memory and slots for Sony Memory Stick media, and Compactflash and SD cards.

There is also a digital/analogue clock and a light sensor to dim the screen automatically when the room's lights are turned off.

The Vaio CP1 is expected to be available from around mid-October and retail for about $300. µ

Sony sticker = $$$

I've had a Momento photo frame for some time that does all that the Sony one does and more ...and I got it fairly cheap at Play.com>

And yes it has picasa support, and flickr and smugmug, and other people can send pictures directly to the frame (from the momentolive.com website
