VIA spruces up Nano-ITX board with VX800

Board stiff

VIA TECHNOLOGIES HAS revealed the VIA EPIA N700 Nano-ITX board for compact industrial PC and embedded automation devices.

The VIA EPIA N700 features the VIA's VX800 combined all-in-one media system processor and extended I/O ports to prevent the spaghetti junction building up behind your computer.

This latest inspiration features a 1.5GHz VIA C7 or 500MHz VIA Eden processor and is the latest board to feature the VIA VX800 media system processor.

The VX800 also offers excellent hardware and contains an integrated DX9 graphics core.

Alongside all of this, the VIA EPIA N700 is also the lowest profile Nano-ITX board ever made. With on-board VGA, USB, COM and Gigabit network ports this compact board will cut out all that annoying fumbling around with cables.

The VIA EPIA N700 requires only a single 4-pin power cable as its sole power source.

Daniel Wu, Vice President, VIA Embedded Platform Division, explains, “The VIA EPIA N700 Nano-ITX board has been specially developed to excel in space constrained environments while offering an extensive feature set based around the VIA VX800…Through listening carefully to customers, we’re confident that we’ve made the VIA EPIA N700 as user friendly as possible”. Honest. µ

Still no Nano?

I was hoping to see a motherboard with Via Nano, but they're still running on C7 I see. What's taking so long? :)

Via N700

Best thing, it doesn't run "The Broken OS(R)" making it instantly usable.

Problem is, these small form systems still cost a bit more than desktops, as they should, so most people won't consider them, even for industrial applications. They'll just buy a cheap-o Dell desktop, abuse it for a couple of years, then toss it.

excellent for space constrained applications

If you need a pc in a space constrained area this would be a great device. You can't stuff a motherboard or pc inside a glove compartment or inside a surfboard.

Waiting for Nano

If Via wins prices with a Nano CPU and VX800 GPU combination, then why bother launching C7 based boards?
The market (and I) are screaming for faster-than-Atom CPUs, so Via needs to deliver what they have announced. I cannot understand why they let Intel feed and conquer the market while they sit on their hands or continue to launch yesterday's CPUs...
