Google releases Iphone translation software

Do you speak Jobs?

SEARCH ENGINE outfit Google decided that everyone who owns an Iphone needs to speak another language.

So Google has released an Iphone version of Google Translate which is a web service that translates text between languages using computer algorithms.

It is about as accurate at understanding foreign speech as Babelfish but it is better than a poke in the eye with a short stick.

However it is unlikely to be that useful when you are being mugged in a foreign place. Whipping out your Iphone to communicate with your mugger is more likely to aid the mugger rather than spark a life-long friendship.

Google Translate for Iphone supports all of the existing Google Translate language pairs. It is written using the AJAX Language API and the languages will be automatically updated.

You can get between 200 and 400 translations in 1MB of data download, apparently. That works out to 400 phrases for less than $10 when roaming internationally. µ
