Best Buy snags US Iphone sales deal
See ya, Circuit City
US GADGET FLOGGER Best Buy will start selling Apple's Iphone from early September, it announced today.
Previously Steve Jobs' Jesus phone has only been available in the US from AT &T's 2,000-plus cellphone stores and in the fruit company's own 189 retail stores.
Best Buy already sells a wide variety of mobile phones from various manufacturers. It also sells the Blackberry, which is the Iphone's major US rival and the top-selling smartphone to business people.
Best Buy presently operates 970 big box computer and personal electronics stores as well as 16 cellphones-only Best Buy Mobile stores throughout the US.
Shawn Score, Best Buy Mobile president, told Reuters, "[Having the Iphone] solidifies us as the place to go for the cool stuff. Our customers are looking for this product."
Apple presumably hopes that its deal with Best Buy will help it reach its goal of selling 10 million Iphones this year, an achievement which is still somewhat in doubt.
Best Buy also recently announced that it will start selling mobile phones in airport kiosks. µ
