Apple and AT&T blame each other
AT&T AN APPLE can't work out who is to blame for a problem that cuts off 3G Iphone users mid-conversation.
Complaints about the phone's 3G reception have flooded bogs and Apple and AT &T switchboards, with the message that 3G Iphone users are having trouble connecting, and staying connected, to the networks in their areas.
While the nice-looking communication toy can switch between 3G and EDGE networks when the device is sitting still, punters are losing reception if they take the mobile aspect of mobile communications too literally.
Apparently, the problem only applies to Iphones on AT&T's network and not any of its other 3G products.
Apple has dealt with the problem in the way it usually does. It has ignored it. And done its best to keep complaints off of its web site. It refers all inquiries to AT&T. AT&T on the other hand looks at its network and says it is all working fine and it must be an Apple problem.
Mark Siegel, a spokesman for AT&T said that while he was not denying that punters were having problems they could be dealt with on a case-by-case basis.
It does not also seem to be about network coverage as 3G users in the UK and Australia, are reporting the same problems.
Another quirk, according to AP is that users who have exchanged their Iphone 3Gs for new units report stronger reception with the new phones. However this does not always work all the time. µ

It's definitly the iPhone because my Windows Mobile based Tilt (or Kaiser if you wish to call it that) gets perfect signals and never drops.all the more reason to not buy one
I dont know why people buy into the whole apple product thing, for some reason people think it is cool or a way of life to own white fruit themed electronics, my partner was infected by the apple virus long b4 i had met her, she had an ugly CRT monitor pc/box all in one thing G3 but the reality of it all is.is the products are just crap and you get overcharged for them, and they fail alot, and you get unreliable products, when will you apple people learn, this isnt i am a pc lover and i hate all things MAC, well no i dont the new mac laptops are very good, why you ask? because they are X86 technolgy, and have decent compnents in them, but for the love of god, stay away from ipods, iphone, nano, all this new gizmo crap is just poorly made, and will fail all the time. plus you will pay throught the roof for it, and while you live your apple fruit themed life, go on knowing that your product was made by Pea a 32 year old Malayasian that got paid 4 dollars for that days work where he probably had to make 200 iphones for 4 US dollars, that they sell to you for 500? apple may look cool, and white from the outside, but the harsh reality is a much much bleaker story, and a sad one at that.
So while you get all nicely dressed put your designer sunglasses on, and your nice clothes, you get your precious overpriced piece of fruit and walk out of your house feeling all cool,
but then you go to use it and it wont work. so you get very upset take it back to apple to get fixed, Pea looses his job and his $4 per day income over apples terrible quality control and cheap parts to begin with. so do us all a favor fruit brainwashed folks, stop buying this junk and support good companies, and good products with high worker standards, and get over yourself, having a white phone called I phone made by a complete idiot, does not make you cool, nor does it help Pea the 32 year old battler from Malaysia

Ameritech / SBC / AT&T has very reliable service - you can always rely on it to DROP your call at any time. I've had it for a few years now, always hoping it will improve, sadly disappointed. Oh, well, I'm not so important I always need to be talking to anyone who will listen to me babble.Jim
