German elderly opt out of communications age

Don't mention the Warcraft

MORE THAN 58 per cent of German retired people cannot be bothered owning a mobile phone or computer.

According to a study by the researcher Aris for Bitkom, a technology industry association, this figure contrasts sharply with the number of 14- to 29-year age group where only five per cent don't have a phone or a computer.

BITKOM President August-Wilhelm Scheer said that there was a digital divide in Germany between the old and the young.

He reckons that it is all down to fear of new technology and it means that older people to miss out on helpful services they could get via the internet or mobile phone.

Bitkom has started offering special courses at colleges, senior citizen's centres and religious organisations in a bid to help older people overcome their technology fears. Hopefully the elderly will not be too scared to go. µ

Smart. Very Smart.

Dang Germans just don't want to be bothered, I would guess. Maybe if they had an over inflated sense of importance (like most of the rest of th world) they would give a crap if anyone and everyone could get ahold of them anytime.

Ever consider...

...that some people just don't have a need or terrible desire to use a computer?
