Sun gambles on Facebook games

Olympian effort

SUN MICROSYSTEMS announced the release of Mypicks Beijing 2008 for Facebook. The new game allows users to compete online with their friends by predicting the winners of the 2008 summer Olypmics.

Mypicks Beijing 2008 was developed by Pramati Technologies using Zembly, Sun's new browser-based social application development environment.

According to Vijay Pullur, co-founder and CTO of Pramati, Zembly has created a new way for developers to easily build Facebook applications “without the cost and complexity of hosting and managing the application themselves”.

Sun describes Zembly as a social programming environment specifically designed for the creation and hosting of social applications for Facebook, Meebo, OpenSocial [and] the iPhone.

Mypicks Beijing 2008 is available on Facebook here. µ

Dying star

It's so sad... what used to be a company that would design and manufacture its own chips for its server line is now reduced to pandering web games to Facebook users. Soon Sun will go the way of DEC and be bought, sold, and eventually broken down and sold for parts.
