LinkedIn and Sun ink deal

Enterprise to power database

LINKEDIN HAS SELECTED Sun's MySQL Enterprise to facilitate the upgrade of its Open Source database. The three-year Enterprise database subscription will reportedly improve site responsiveness and eliminate current backlogs during user interaction.

Jean-Luc Vaillant, Chief Technology Officer at LinkedIn, explained that the combination of Sun and MySQL means "quicker access to the latest innovation in an open and reliable environment".

LinkedIn's current infrastructure is based primarily on Sun technologies, including the Solaris 10 OS and Sun SPARC Enterprise servers.

Zack Urlocker, Sun VP of database group products, said that helping LinkedIn scale their Web systems "demonstrates the strength of combining the Sun and MySQL teams".

LinkedIn currently claims a network of 25 million professionals in more than 170 countries. µ
