Nokia N96 spotted
September release confirmed for 3
HOT ON THE RELEASE of the 3G Iphone comes a sequel to Nokia's reigning king.
The successor to the N95, the N96, will be released in September, on UK mobile network 3, according to T3.
It’ll be available for a minimum of £15 per month on 3's Mix'n'Match price plan.
In comparison to its predecessor, the N96 will come with double the maximum storage - 16GB, comparable to the top-spec'd 3G Iphone.
Although the device isn't touch-screen based, it does sport a 5-megapixel Carl Zeiss camera, with dual LED flash, and comes with instant upload tools for Flickr, Vox, Yahoo! and Google.
It also comes with an expendable memory slot, using MicroSD - something sadly missing from the Iphone.
It'll weigh in at 125g, come coupled with HSDPA (3.5G data rates), and contain an on-board radio.
The design of the phone has also been updated, it now looks a lot curvier than the N95, and slightly more svelte.
However, apart from a few aesthetic changes and a memory upgrade, we can't see much in the way of anything startlingly new in this upgraded mobile model from Nokia.
You can read more about the N96 at the Nokia N96 site here.
Nokia has also kindly provided a useful N96 demo site, where you can try-out the phone without leaving your house. µ

Oh Hello!
Sliding Jesus phone!Fast UI hopefully
I just hope it runs faster over the n95 8gb. Switching between camera and video modes is soooo slow and so are a lot of other tasks. Also i'd like to be able to view names AND numbers as I scroll my address book. Can't believe that feature was left out (or maybe i missed it but i'm pretty sure i didn't).
£15 plus video pack
You say it will start from £15 on 3 but you seem to have missed off the fact that it will need a video pack on top most likely the £15 one as was the original one for the n95 8gb, so for £30 will get 300 minutes or texts and 150 video minutes to other 3 numbers or pay for the phone, not such a bargain now.TV reception standard
I thought the biggest change was the abilty to receive TV signals, dont remember the standard protocol they added for that, but not interested in that functionality anyway.. do want one thoughToo Thick?
This is a good looking phone but just way too thick. I own an N82 and it's as thick as I can handle a phone being, but has the Xenon flash so I can't complain. They should have put in the Xenon flash in this phone, not sure why they didn't. Battery life maybe?teevee
It uses DVB, which isn't used here stateside. So for me, the only thing it has above the N95-4 is the SD slot. Meh.
I'll stick with my N95-4 :)
Bad for your eyes
Instead of useless 5 MP camera for this kind of matrix and optics sizes and using Karl Zeiss optics made out of bottle glass, they would better increased pixel count and screen size (amount of free plastic with the huge ugly unneaded button and logo "Nokia" is enough for 4" widescreen monitor).Steve Jobs immediately realized that QVGA is not acceptable for comfortable browsing, why Nokia which has great WVGA 800x480 N810 does not realize this ?? Pathetic design phone for losers. BTW N810 has real keyboard and still is 1.5 times thinner than this brick.
GTFO fanboi
Apples 2mp poxy camera is one of the main reasons I am waiting for the N96, as well as a possible 32GB of storage, as well as stereo bluetooth, as well as proper GPS (NOT assisted and with on phone maps)Also Carl Zeiss optics made from bottle glass, I did LOL, but for christs sake, when you are going to attack a feature on something that is not made by Apple, DO NOT take the pee out of other vendors cameras when the Apple one takes pictures equivalent to a 2 year olds efforts with crayons
3?!
Okay, must people don't buy a phone to actually phone with these days, but you might as well move to a lead-lined tomb a mile under the Antarctic as get a contract with 3.Megapixel games for retards
Those buying megapixel nonsence on such obscura-size cameras for $10 in BOM do not deserve even laugh, particularly on this site.As to Zeiss optics here is an example of their latest poop into the eyes of such criticans:
