Opti fancies its chances in patent spat with AMD

Texas hold 'em down

CHIP DESIGN OUTFIT Opti Inc. reckons it's in with a fair shout of squeezing some dough out of AMD after a federal court looked down favourably on some of its complaints about the chip maker.

According to an AP story, Opti claimed the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas was prepared to listen to some of its complaints after these were laid out in a pretrial hearing.

Opti claimed back in 2006 that AMD was infringing its patents by "making, selling, and offering for sale CPUs and core logic products based on and incorporating Predictive Snooping technology".

Opti hasn't made any chips itself for six years or so but seems not to like to think other folk might be doing so using ideas it developed.

If it wins a few bob off AMD it may be able to afford a decent web site. µ
