Pioneer to flog Blu-Ray

In Japan

CONSUMER ELECTRONICS OUTFIT Pioneer said it will start flogging Blu-ray disk recorders in Japan sometime before March 2009.

However a spokesPioneer said there were no plans to sell the recorder outside Japan at the moment.

According to this morning's Nikkei, the firm will develop Blu-ray DVD recorders with partner Sharp.

They will be targeted at Japanese people who have lots of cash to burn rather than the budget market.

Gadget-mad Japan is being seen as a lucrative market for Blu-ray. There is an optimism in that country for the technology which is not seen elsewhere. Blu-ray sales are still slow world-wide.

Pioneer already has deals with Sharp under which Pioneer will buy Sharp's liquid crystal displays for flat TVs. µ

guinea pigs

well no wonder since the japanese are practically the guinea pigs of the world for new stuff and blu ray has been on sale in japan for years even if it was based on the old cartridge based discs they still had blu ray before everyone.

it has its up sides but is also the major downside of product development makign something they have bought useless within a year or so
