Colourful secrets of shoot-em-ups revealed

Better red than dead

IF YOU WANT to win a online multiplayer shooting game, make sure you are on the Red Team.

Boffins analysing the outcomes of 1,347 matchups between elite teams playing Unreal Tournament 2004 have discovered that statistically it's better to be on the red team than on the blue team,

Neuroscientist Mihai Moldovan of the University of Copenhagen in Denmark said that 55 per cent of the time, the red team won.

His theory was that red may act as a psychological distracter for men, possibly because men flush and turn red when they're angry. Although women do that when they are having sex or doing exercise so we are not sure of his point was on this one

The red colour thing has been noticed in sports where British boffins found that athletes wearing red in one-on-one events like wrestling at the 2004 Olympics were more likely to win.

In the west the colour red is associated with anger and violence. Astrologically it was connected with the war god Mars, whose planet was red. However in China the colour red is associated with good fortune and luck. Both associations would be fine if you wanted to win a game involving shooting things we would have thought. µ

BF2142

Not alot of help in games such as Battlefield 2142 where the enemy always appears red and friendlies as blue, no matter what side you are on.

That explains so much!

For those few Toronto Sports fans... all of whom's (except for basketball) favourite sports teams colour is blue... don't get your hopes up.

It's easier to see

I would think it would mainly be due to the fact that red is brighter, thus more visible and easier to target

RvB

Blue is easier to see (eg lack of blue bricks) therefore easier to shoot.

Server code favours red team

ROLF at the analysts.
With UT2004, any new player jumping in will be added to the RED team first if the teams had identical numbers. And most of the servers by default are setup with that setting. I have seen some servers change it to favour blue team but still to be honest I hardly care about colour when I am playing.
