Google phone delay rumours denied

Cracks appear in Krakov's prediction

GOOGLE HAS MOVED to dispel rumours being peddled by tech hack Gary Krakow which claimed that the Android OS will not be on a Gphone until 2009.

Citing a Deep Throat within Google, Krakow claimed that, while the Android OS should be ready for launch by the end of the year, the "Gphone" from Google has been delayed into next year.

The informer overturned a previous rumour that Samsung would be producing a couple of Google-branded handsets in September.

Google was so moved by Krakow's report that it felt the need to deny it. It said it will have an Android-powered phone on the market in 2008.

A Google spokesperson said that the outfit was still on track to announce Android-powered phones this year. Some of its partners are publicly stating that they plan to ship Android phones in the fourth quarter, he said.

The search engine outfit is under pressure to release its phone as soon as possible as the main rival, Apple, is set to release its 3G Iphone any day now. µ

Track Record

Google doesn't have the best track record.
They haven't released a single physical product, ever.

(Stocks and convention swag with the Google logo don't count.)
