Centrino laptop launch delayed
Graphics and Wifi not playing ball
INTEL HAS PUSHED BACK the launch of it's Centrino 2 laptop chip sets by up to two months after discovering problems in the platform's integrated graphics as well as issues with 802.11n wireless certification.
Also named Montevina, the Centrino 2 platform will feature Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Extreme mobile processors if it ever makes it out of the factory.
Originally scheduled for a June release, it's now looking like August at the earliest before anyone gets their hands on the new kit in any kind of volume, although the Intel PR machine is talking in terms of days when it comes to the delays.
According to PC World, Intel spokesman Elvin Ong said, "We are taking the extra days to address two issues that require us to re-screen our chipsets with integrated graphics, and attend to some terms and conditions mistakes while filing and testing our wireless antennas. We are not going to ship a sub-par product into the market."
Which is all very decent of them. µ

I guess it took an Intel screwup and good AMD execution on Puma to have AMD win the consumer notebook war for the holiday. At least consumers will have a choice of BD playback with high quality video and great gaming. Imagine if AMD wasn't around...... I hope Intel now realizes that graphics and video aren't easy. Just talk to Nvidia and ATI. If Intel can't deliver decent graphics in a timely manner, how on earth is Laterbee/Laughabee going to do?Intel mentioned "graphics is dead".
