Graphics card launched for FPGA fiddlers
$1500 gets you a non-working graphics board
THOSE OF YOU WHO get your kicks footling about in the innards of your computers will be delighted to hear of the impending arrival of the Traversal Technology OGD1.
And if field-programmable gate arrays (FPGA) float your boat then you should truly be in hog heaven.
The card, which was designed in collaboration with the Open Graphics Project, is sold as a blank, containing only basic diagnostic tools, so only those with advanced HDL programming and FPGA logic design skills need apply.
THe OGD1 Revision B OGD1P-256DDAV; AS-000-0002 (to give it its full and very sexy name) will be available in limited numbers for $1500 soon, but if you pre-order now you'll get a $100 discount.
Go on. Go and get your credit card! µ

uh?
i dont understand...your suppossed to program your own graphic card or something?WOW
Can it play WOW?Werez teh benchmsrks1!?/?
So, as an early adopter I could spend $1500 on a graphics set up that doesn't work?Sounds familiar... like early adopters of vista for their nvidia SLI set ups

All I can think is Drive by Local IT College, put up ad for FPGA programer & kept Cage in Basement. Offer Nutriant turds in exchange for software developement.hahahaha."Cruelty befoe Punixhment."drashek
Drashek
Something is definitely wrong. Drashek is starting to sound human and less like a chat bot. Someone find James Connor, or Motoko Kusanagi.4 in SLI
I just got four of these in SLI soon i'll be pwning you noobs all over the internets!!!!!1111111Entuziasts
People who design their own hardware are truly a tech entuziasts. It is not about buying an ready-made card in a shop, plugging it into a slot, and using a ready-made software for torturing (overclocking) the poor thing and then compensating their serotonine/dopamine levels by posting a 3dmark score on some forum.Actually, I think FPGAs are a wonder
FPGSs are truely good things. Check this NewScientist article from way back when:http://www.newscientist.com/article/mg15621085.000-creatures-from-primordial-silicon--let-darwinism-loose-in-anelectronics-lab-and-just-watch-what-it-creates-a-lean-mean-machine-thatnobody-understands-clive-davidson-reports.html
Re uh? by LaiFoX
Not quite. Some of the important parts already working and are available for download from SVN. But yes, the group are programming a graphics card. This board is what is needed for the design and testing of that code. Then the tested code is used to make a cost effective ASIC graphics card. It is an important step. Want to learn? Feel free to join in.While this board is for developers, If you want open graphics, you might help out the developers by making a donation to The non profit Open Hardware Foundation (OHF). The OHF are assisting developers to purchase boards.
ATTN: Zohan!
I get the Ghost in the Shell reference, but who the hell is James Connor?back from teh futar
I think he meant JOHN Connor, as in the dood from terminator.. but :SHe was human.. :P
