MSI passes Wind

"Low-cost" laptop to sport XP to drive up the price

MSI HAS released some more details about its upcoming low-cost laptop, the Wind.

The one kilogramme laptop will run Microsoft’s Windows XP on an 8.9-inch or 10-inch wide LCD display on a 1024x 600 resolution. The notebook will ship with a proper 80Gb 2.5-inch hard drive, which is unusual in this class of machine

The notebook is expected to be available in Europe June at between €299 and €699 ($471 - $1100) according to Chinese sauces.

According to the Taiwanese firm, “The internet has become the very bridge that connects the world. It is also the most effective way of receiving the latest of necessary knowledge and methods. The small and beautiful Wind Notebook will provide the necessities for all computer functions, as wells as simple and friendly operating conditions so all of us may participate in the world of the internet.”

And you can't say fairer than that. µ

choose the better-smelling Wind

Contrary to your coverage, the *Wind* is also available in a Linux version (according to MSI's info). I think that is wise, as the MS-laced Wind leaves a bad and lingering odour. For instance, how is the XP version supposed to be used in the good 'ol U S of A, with Homeland Security threatening to do *things* to those who run insecure operating systems such as Windows XP?
Quote: "So all of us [bots, trojans, rootkits, viruses, hackers] may participate in the world of the internet.”

The Linux model is another story, especially if the MS-tax is deducted from the selling price...
