AMD confirms ten percent job cuts

Misses income targets too

AMD CONFIRMED OUR story about layoffs and income today by announcing layoffs and a drop in income. Other than us being right, there is nothing to be happy about, as the actual level of redundancies is ten per cent - double the expected number.

The revenue decline is 15 per cent vs Q4/2007, but up 22 per cent over 1Q/2007.

The firm said 1,650 jobs will go said AMD and Q1 sales will be around $1.5 billion or around 15% down quarter on quarter.

"The decrease is due to lower than expected sales across all business segments," an AMD statement said after the markets closed on Monday.

Those without jobs will walk within six months.

The firm is struggling in the first quarter and said it will take a charge in the second quarter but it doesn’t yet know how much.

There has been speculation that Hector’s job is on the line. Financial results are due on April 17th. µ

stupid AMD

AMD sucks.
AMD sucks.

We all know that AMD is in a world of hurt, and to put it bluntly, they suck.

I would not use an AMD product if they gave it away.

AMD may forever be known as the biggest waste of potential that the semiconductor industry ever saw.

What did they do after K8?
Did they do anything, any work at all after K8?

It honestly looks as though everyone at AMD spent the entire time that the Athlon series was a viable market choice, reading benchmark reviews at Anandtech... over, and over, and over.

I can't believe how poorly this company is reflected after 2007.

Oh well,
Here is to intel, for not sitting on their arses and doing damn good work, and as far as that goes, it looks like the best is yet to come.

AMD can kiss my behind, forever.

AMD SALES are UP 50%

Inspite of Doom & Gloom, AMD Sales this Most recent 650 Million$ loss Quarter are UP 50% In Units Shipped.

While Cost is Down 37%, Cost of FAB Write Offs, Hit Goat in Groid.

Hers Catch My Friend. Those Sales are Permanent AMD Systems. hehehe. Wait til Joe Paloka sees both Price & Performance Shiners. Well It Could Start AMD National Holiday.
Well Call it KING AMD Day. Stay home &get paid to ape D' Spouse Day might be more accurate, Yet They Wouldn't print that on Calander, its TOO Long.

:O

It's a damn shame. Hopefully, after Shanghai is released (hopefully sometime this decade), that they might be able to open the positions again....providing that its a decent chip.

As for the comment by "big news", the fanboy ignorance burns my eyes. I'm not even gonna go there...

Sales up? So what!

it doesn't matter if sales are up 100% if you are not making the numbers you are supposed to and more importantly if you are not making a profit.

Even AMD's top of the line processors are outperformed by Intel's last generation C2D based processors and it only gets worse for AMD as Intel pushes into .45um.

Intel Rules!!!

If AMD went bankrupt, Intel will dominate the world. YES!!!
And if it happens, I don't think that they will sell they products at an affordable price. SO WHAT!!!
And if there's something wrong with they products at the time, YES!!! We have no other option. HURRAY!!!
