Imax films on a mobile?
Great stupid ideas of all time
SOME BUFFOONS at Imax have spent shedloads in a bid to distribute their supersized films on mobile phones.
In a press release, Imax said it had hired Northstar Media to stick 21 titles onto TV, VOD, mobile and broadband platforms as the giant-screen exhibitor's exclusive worldwide representative.
While Imax films have appeared on DVD and Blu-ray this sort of makes sense. We say sort of because generally Imax films are a bit dull and are only interesting because you see them on a screen the size of a morbidly-obese blue whale in a purpose-built movie theatre.
Who could forget the dramatic violence and character development that was depicted in the flick ‘Into the Deep’? I did, we had to look it up, it was about sharks.
So who would want to see these dire movies stripped of the only impact they might have by having the content reduced to the size of a two and a half inch screen?
Answers on the back of a postage stamp please. µ

What the author of the article fails to realize, is that these IMAX films (as all IMAX films) are shot on 70-millimeter film which transfer better than any other medium to HI DEFINITION. There are lots of Hi Definition TV networks that would kill to have such great-looking product with a brand name like IMAX attached. Mobile rights are probably just part of the overall rights that are available, but the focus is Hi Def TV.AT adds: A hi-def phone? Do me a favour.
The film is bigger than the screen
Did no one notice the 70mm film is larger than the 30-50mm screen?
