AMD's denial looks like a confirmation from here
Yeah but, no but, yeah but, no - butt out
REPORTS ON THE INTERWEB have it that AMD denied it is laying anybody off. Sorry, that's not entirely accurate. It denied yesterday that has already laid anyone off. As to the future, like the next few days or so, the outfit couldn't possibly comment.
The reports seem to have begun with the impressively-monikered Scott M. Fulton III who said two AMDers had offered somewhat feeble denials of our story.
"AMD confirms that it has not had a reduction in force," said one. "While AMD cannot comment on speculation about what may happen in the future, we confirm that we have not had layoffs at this time," he added. A second spokesperson said it it was "official" that "we have not had a workforce reduction."
As we're used to the ways of spinners, we might suggest that the omission from first statement of the word "work" could have been deliberate. We do like the bit about being unable to speculate about what may happen in the future. Cough!
As far as the evidence for the prosecution is concerned, we haven't heard a dicky bird from the chip maker since the story went up. And since we usually get a nudge if we even make a typo in one of its product names, for example, we suggest the silence speaks volumes.
We called AMD's spinners in Blighty today but it seems the bunnies are tucked up with their Easter eggs. It may be a Bank Holiday here, but don't they know the Interweb never sleeps?
Of course, announcing lay-offs is a bit of a double-edged sword. While we mere mortals are struck by the thought that hard-working folk, or indeed, plain old working folk, may be tossed on the scrapheap unable to feed bairn nor babe, sharp-suited investors lick their lips at the thought of all those costs dropping off the bottom line. And invariably the stock price creeps up as a result.
These layoffs are one way AMD can demonstrate to investors that it's doing something constructive. And they'll happen, take our word for it. We have had some sketchy reports that they're happening already, but we won't mention those, as we haven't confirmed them as we go to press.
Meantime, let's take this opportunity to wish you a happy Eostre, whether you're employed or otherwise. And should you have recently been employed by AMD, you know who to call. µ

AMD today announced the appointment of Nigel Dessau as chief marketing officer (CMO). He brings 22 years of technology sales and marketing leadership experience at IBM and Sun, and will be responsible for AMDs global marketing, image and campaign strategies.Sounds like person has connections up & down sleeve. Big Money Nigel.
AMD Big technical hope is that while Nahalem ramps from 2 to 8 cores, its only 733 million Trannies-Yeah, like gears feeding data about-Giving AMD Price/Performance charts that should be Hopeful. Its Tuk wi la job thats hotter class & SOONER yet, Dunningtom or ham with 6 cores, it really big, 30 gb cache & 1.9 billion trannie istors, & you know what I don't find much difference between desktop designated cpu parts & server designate cpu from same make/model level, so why not game with Main Frame CPU Dunningthing..?Well first you need mainboard.Next about y2k$ EACH.
AMD Other addition is ceo like fellow who I hope will help Mr. Dresser keep costs down & cards/chipsets HOT.

What will happen to Charlie
Is Charlie, our ever loyal DAAMIT salesman be affected with these layoffs?Stunned... good work
Finally a person who writes an article and rather than just re-print the AMD statement verbatim, actually tries to analyze it and ask what are they really saying and what are they not saying?Well done sir (seriously)! Granted this one was pretty easy to see through, but most folks choose not to see/analyze!
Me thinks the worm is starting to turn on AMD's continuous spin cycle over the last few years and people will now begin to question how AMD parses their wording.
Heres Other Guy.
AMD ... not surprisedto see new heads coming in at hardest time. Nine days after AMD hired
ex-Dell VP Dr. Ahmed Mahmoud to serve as the Chief Information
Officer, Other as stated Friday:New Chief Marketing Officer is Nigel Dessaue, former lion from the
rows of IBM and Sun Microsystems. Nigel has 22 years of experience
22 years is lot, Barton Core was 5 years ago & who would even remember, Palemino was core before Barton, Now How Many More Have Advanced Cause of Quality? Barton was DVD capable, while Palemino was finalization of CD. So its strong point to even be in Computing Industry after so long, Let Alone Selling & Defining it.
Most obvious would be Give Entire Mess to Dresser, Chandlerdrasheken & Drashek. Kind of Twiddle dee, dum & Fum, all in 1. LOL. All in One Dra?hahaha, Maybe they Can Spell.

Layoffs in the air
Yes they are coming. It's expected to be about 10% although some groups are effected as much as 15%.I have heard that the axe is going to fall mid this week!
Management should lay itself off
It’s time for Hector Ruiz to lay himself off. Does he realize he is the reason for the company’s poor performance? The company has failed everywhere: Personal Internet Communicator, flash memory, Alchemy MIPS, and K10 processor. It overpaid for a profitable ATI and turned it into a loser while bringing AMD’s debt to colossal levels. Hector is just plain awful.
