Intel debuts quad core mobile CPU

Not cheap as chips

CHIPZILLA plans to launch its first quad-core CPU for notebooks, the Core 2 Extreme QX9300, in Q3, say mobo makers. The chip is a snip at just $1,038 a pop in 1,000 unit tray quantities.

The Core 2 Extreme QX9300 uses a 45nm process and will debut at 2.53GHz and support FSB speeds up to 1066MHz. The chip has 12MB of L2 cache and a maximum thermal design power of 45W. µ

45w?

Well, I guess it only make sense when you install it into a desktop replacement.

3Q means 4Q

Intel is not willing or not capable to deliver 45nm breed processors so far. Where the heck are, for example, the new 45nm dual-core and quad-core E8400/E8500 Q9450/Q9550 etc introduced in Jan 8, two months ago? None of them is in stock yet and no info about arrival. What is going on there?! What INQ's sniffers & informers worldwide will tell us ?

3Q means 3Q for Apple

Intel is capable of shipping 45nm parts but the majority of the desktop parts are being sucked up by Apple. The server parts are available in the channel.

I would suspect this new mobile quad core will become quite popular in mac book pro's....

45nm is right now

E8400? I bought one last month. MicroCenters had them on sale for $199, but they ran out before I found out about it. So I went to Frys and bought one for $225. That is one *great* chip. Yes, they're in short supply. But they *are* available.

If you can't find one, get the Q6600 and overclock it from 2.4GHz to 3.6GHz with a good fan/heatsink.

Intel

well I guess they won't tell us anything.

It seems that 45nm is for Intel what 65nm was for AMD. Fortunately, AMD seems to be going well towards 45nm so i guess I'll wait for those to buy a new cpu.

Well Intel hasn't published any errata on 45nm processors. If they have something similar to TLB bug, maybe it'll be Q1 '09. Wouldn't it be swell :D?

45nm Quake-core Q9300 available in UK

This spanker CPU works at 2.5GHz and has 6MB of total cache. According to Fudo: In the U.K. you need to pay £189.52 Inc VAT.
It's no QX fix to be sure, but with any luck, some spit and polish, you could maybe overclock it to something like 11.

3Q means 4Q

45nm dual-cores E8200 and E8400 are available in Korea though E8500 is currently out of stock. On the other hand, only Q9300 45nm quad-core is available so far. See it here: http://www.ezguide.co.kr/search/index.html?Gname=%C0%CE%C5%DA+%C4%DA%BE%EE2&Cname=&image2.x=0&image2.y=0&Sprice=&Eprice=&goods_number=

Why should they?

Why should intel hurry to get 45nm parts out to us?

They are so far ahead of AMD's current crop of crap that they can sit on their best technology, save some R&D money ... and profit from doing nothing.

45nm dual core

Theyre already available for the mobile side of things. The e8400 for the desktop was enjoyed primarily by early adopters, so it too is out there. Check lenovo's website if you're so hot and hungry for 45nm on laptops.

45w seems a bit much for a laptop, doesn't it?
