US Democratic conference goes open source
Doomed
OPEN SAUCE content management system (CMS), Silverstripe, has been selected by the U.S. Democratic Party as the platform for its pre-election conference, the Democratic National Convention 2008.
And if their experience with open source CMS wizardry is anything like the INQ's the whole lot will come crashing down just as Barack and Hilary start rolling around on the floor together.
The bloke who chose Kiwi-produced Silverstripe for the project, said it offered a robust yet vibrant-looking website.
SilverStripe’s chief marketing manager, Sigurd Magnusson, told stuff.co.nz that the company is making “hundreds of thousands” thanks to the deal.
Magnusson says that his company is following MySQL’s lead when it comes to business models, with Silverstripe giving away its code for free and then making money by providing consultancy and support.
He also reckons that by distributing the code as a freebie, Silverstripe reap the benefits in terms of marketing and PR. µ
