Macbook Air is air traveller's headache
Air apparent
US AIRPORT security is causing a headache for Macheads who try to fly with their ironically titled Macbook Air laptops.
Engadget is reporting how travellers are complaining how security officers, who, let's face it are not the sharpest tools in the box, were looking at the Macbook Air and thinking it a fake.
They assumed because it didn't have a disk drive and was too thin, it must be a fake and packed with explosives.
One security guard complained there was no ports in the back, something that reviewers have also objected to.
Usually the security people call other security people to look at the beast before letting the person fly on. This leads us to believe that they don't really believe the Apple Air to be a bomb but either like the novelty or just like annoying people.
Usually, Macheads have to explain what an SSD is and since this takes time it does tend to slow the line up a bit.
Advice to travellers who have an Air is to either leave it at home or allow plenty of time to clear security.
If you don't have one of the latest Apple toys, but you see an extra smug person in the line with an Apple computer case it might be a good idea to change queues. µ

A computer is not an appliance, a computer is not an appliance, a computer...
I think we should have innovated dishwashers a bit more so more people would get used to innovation.Apple Air
Actually, from a certain perspective, the fruity-themed Air IS a bomb. Certainly should be considered a commercial failure. Only Apple would come out with an underpowered, underperforming POC like the Air, and only the slavish, boot-licking devotees of Steve the Almighty would even consider throwing gobs of (useless) U.S. dollars away for the "priviledge" of owning one of those gobstoppers.ROFL
Seems to me that security gaurds have the same sense that (almost) everyone in the market does: WTF IS THIS AND WHY DOES IT HAVE SO FEW FEATURES!?Funny
The people who are buying a mac book aren't the brightest of a bunch, heck they are simply fanboys. I very much doubt they know what a solid state drive is.So freakin' what?
Go out and find some really interesting news, please...Awesome
Bwahaha, brilliant. If it were a bomb, it would be 100% more useful.
Get yourself a ThinkPad X300 if you really need ultraportability - it has an SSD, WiFi-N, a DVD-RW, ULV CPU, replaceable battery, upgradeable RAM and holy crap *3* USB ports...
It's what the Air should have been, minus the preinstalled smugware.
Air Port
No ports on an Air? In an Airport? What do you expect?
Just mail it then....in one of those manilla envelopes...
The main feature.
Consider mailing it to yourself.Err...
"Apple case" - don't you mean a manila envelope?Internet
Are they haven't internet there in the airport? Just ask the passanger what is that. Oh a macbook air, googling for the review oh hardware site. And then match the picture or something else. Or at least they can check (I don't know about apple, but DELL have) service tag to make sure it real.Freedom? ha!
Democracy? Human rights? harrasment? The USA makes me laugh.. very hard.... and i'm in south america....
Naw I'm probably just OVER THINKING this one..
Couldn't they just try turning it on?What about the EEE?
does one of them get you hold up as well? It of course also only having an SSD and no ports in the back.If not, then i guess we know why they are REALLY holding up the line.
Mac Envy
I guess Mac Envy doesn't get any more painful than this.
