MICROSOFT has put a public beta of Microsoft Office Live Workspace online.

The web-based extension of all-conquering Office lets users create and share documents online.

Google does a similar thing with Google Docs, the most useful thing about which, as Antivoles will tell you, is that it allows the user to open Office attachments without installing Office. Something that Microsoft is no-doubt mighty miffed about.

A spokesVole said Microsoft was "bringing a software plus services experience to people at home, work and school." The company said that hundreds of thousands of users have signed up since the private beta was launched last October.

Office Live Workspace lets users organise and edit documents and projects online. Microsoft provides limited online storage with the service.
