Rip-off mobile gaming research slammed

It's sensationalist bullocks

FIGURES REPORTED to show that over one third of paid-for games downloaded annually by UK mobile phone users fail to work have been slammed by leading games aggregator, Player X.

Player X CEO, Tony Pearce, tol the INQ: "Reports such as these are sensationalist bullocks."

"As a games publisher and aggregator we spend an utter fortune on testing, porting and certifying games to the highest possible standards," he protested.

Pearce was responding to research carried out behalf of Getjar, which claims to be the world’s most popular mobile application distribution and developer community.

The company claims that insufficient compatibility testing is the root cause of a high failure rate of mobile games.

Consequently Getjar estimated that – working on figures produced by Gfk - over £29 million is spent annually by UK consumers on mobile games which they never get to play.

GetJar claims that and with the variety of handsets continuing to grow year-on-year, believe the problem will continue to grow unless developers place greater emphasis on compatibility.

However, Pearce reckons that the problem stems from rogue sties which lay claim to offering high quality mobile games when they have no such capability.

"There are certain off-portal web sites that are economical with the truth over their content," Pearce added. "Such sites are simply giving the whole industry a bad name." µ
