Wikileaks.org switched off

Whistle-blower site too risky

A US whistle-blower site that allowed people to commit acts of corporate treason has been taken off-line.

Wikileaks.org, which allowed people to post government and corporate documents that organisations would not want revealed, has been closed by order of a judge.

A Swiss bank, Julius Baer, claimed in court that several hundred documents were posted on the site about its offshore activities. The documents seem to show that the bank was involved in some tax avoidance and money laundering operation although a bank would not do anything like that would it?

Wikileak's ISP, Dynadot, was told by the court that it should prevent the domain name from resolving to the wikileaks.org website or any other website or server other than a blank park page.

Wikileaks claimed that the move was "unconstitutional" and said that the site had been "forcibly censored".

According to the Beeb, Julius Baer has asked for the documents to come down because they could impact on a legal case ongoing in Switzerland.

It actually wasn't "switched off," "taken off-line," or "closed down." Dynadot is their Domain Name Service or DNS provider, not their Internet Service Provider or ISP, and so although the name "wikileaks.org" no longer points to their server, the server is still up and running, and you can get to it through a few other names, as detailed on the wikipedia page describing wikileaks.
