Apple wants to create a game console

Dog returns to its sick

APPLE has asked to extend its Apple trademark to include " handheld units for playing electronic games", "handheld units for playing videogames", "stand-alone video game machines", "LCD game machines" and " electronic games other than those adapted for use with television receivers only ".

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Apple is also advertising for a "game producer/designer" to "develop consumer entertainment software".

Some Apple watchers claim that all this just related to gaming via Ipod games which can be delivered via Itunes.

However it is also likely that Jobs' Mob wants a slice of the lucrative games market and is buildinga fruity console.

It is not the first time that Apple has thought of going toe to toe with the likes of Sony.

A few years ago Apple released a game playing multimedia console called the Apple Pippin in the United States and Japan. Not only was it rubbish, but it was ugly looking rubbish too. Not even Apple fanboys touched it and only a few thousand units were reportedly produced. It was ranked as one of the Worst Tech Products of All Time. µ

I can see it now......

I can see it already, I nice looking piece of machinery with all the promise in the world that is only allowed to play Apple games, use Apple peripherals and addons and be technologically inferior to its competitiors by a couple of years but fanboys will buy it anyway.

Apple + Nintendo = Win?

If Apple did a joint venture with Nintendo for a handheld console, I'd join the horde of fanboyz that already infest the Apple stores.

Playing Elite Beat Agents on my Nin-Iphone, woah! Getting that would be a no brainer.

So what

" electronic games other than those adapted for use with television receivers only "

So this is a TV with an iGame (name pending) duct taped to the side of it? Who doesn't already have a TV to hook a console up to?

Chess

There will be an Apple console and an Apple Handheld. They will both be bundled with Apple chess, but it will be the only game available. They will cost more than the Playstation 3 and the Nintendo DS Lite respectively because well.....they are from Apple.

Smiles :)

Phantom II

Why don't they just buy into the phantom console. I am sure all they need is a little cash injection and they'll be churning them out quick smart! Slap on an Apple logo and appleianados will run skip and jump to the store to pay top dollar for 'em.

Thats of the most terrible ideas I've ever heard.

Thats a terrible idea. But it could also be a brilliant one. Steve knows that most Appleheads will play with his droppings if thats what was in a box with the Apple logo on it, and I think he's going to bank on that.

Apple iPone? Crappy Edge? NO problem dude just find a hotspot for the wi-fi!

Mac Air? No CD-Rom? No worries I carry arround extra external hardware.

Thats quite a load, and the fans are eager to swallow.
