More undersea shenanigans hit Davy Jones' net locker
Cable cut count reaches five
IN A CONTINUING mystery that is baffling boffins across the planet, it now appears that yet another undersea cable serving up the world wide wibble to the eastern hemisphere of this planet we call earth has been, well, cut.
Last week, two of the major undersea pipes that carry internets were severed in what was assumed to be a shipping accident. Then, at the end of last week, a third was damaged. Then a fourth and now, as of this morning, a fifth has been shut down before the first two have even been repaired.
No word on how the latest cable has been busted up, although there is a suggestion that it has failed due to a power outage. We're not quite sure about that one.
Traffic is still getting through, thanks to the huge amount of redundancy built into the packet-routing system the net works on, but we wonder if it isn't time to call in the big guns already. Scooby Doo, where are you? µ

Terrorist plan is a success
Can't you see they are winning ? Soon there will be no cable left intact. Osama is isolating us, one suicide diver at a time.As soon as all cables are out of commission, he will send the Holy Fatwahgram to his troops, who, upon receiving the mail will rush to strategic areas covered in C4 and ball bearings and . .
Uh . . wait a minute . .

Pff.No big deal. Everyone knows that the west Internet is way better. In Dubai...
...as of right now the internet is fine and dandy. No slower than Bahrain was a month ago. The Burj Dubai is still going up up up, hot damn it's tall.Jimmy Carter
One should wonder if a particular country might be doing this deliberately. Might be easier to place a tap somewhere on the line after it is broken somewhere else.If it is about fiber taps, just where would you have the compute horsepower to filter through the bit mass? How would you get it there?
I hope it isn't a military operation. That would be such a massive waste of money.
