Nvidia unloads laptop scorcher

Thighs of fire

NOTEBOOK GAMING FANS will be delighted to know that their thighs are in for an even hotter scorching, as Nvidia rolls out 8800M SLI to its high-end partners.

Dell, Rock, Alienware and the likes all make 17-inch (or bigger) laptops with the 8800M chips inside (although most of these are built by Clevo as an OEM design). Now the green team is upping the stakes by announcing an SLI setup that should work in the same form factor.

Indeed, Dell is intending to offer customers the ability to upgrade to SLI if they have purchased the M1730 notebook, which already has the 8800M inside.

Of course, these machines are really portable desktops as opposed to laptops, with their size and weight mitigating their usefulness on the go.

But for those jonesing for their fix of Crysis in some foreign hotel room, the 8800M SLI will certainly be a good option - assuming you've got space in your hand luggage. µ

Mainstream VGA

Nvidia, please create a mainstream mobile that has 50% performance of your best of the best single mobile VGA. In this case 8800M can almost get 10.000 3DMark 2006, so please create "road warrior" laptop that can score 5000 3DMark 2006 that is available everyware. Thx. The only mobile VGA @ this time writing that can get 5000 3DMark 2006 in "road warrior" laptop is NONE :(.
