China Mobile chooses Blackberry over Iphone

Unwooed by Apple

HUMUNGOUS Chinese mobile network China Mobile said it will soon be offering Crackberries to people in the populous republic. The statement comes a day after the company pulled out of talks with Apple over an Iphone deal.

The BlackBerry 8700 will be the first Chinese offerring but it will be for business use not individuals, Sina.com reports.

Up until now, the only place you could buy Crackberries in mainland China was at a black market like the one near Shanghai Railway Station, apparently.

Now it's set to do a lucrative trade in Iphones instead. µ

Strange!

That's not what I heard in CNBC...

"Jobs also reported that rumors of on-again, off-again negotiations with China Mobile are simply untrue; just a single China Mobile rep. has flown out to Cupertino just once. There are no ongoing negotiations, just a first meeting. Jobs wants iPhone in China, but details will come later."

Spin...Spin....

Apple is only at about 40% of their sales goal for iPhone uptake in the first 12 months. China was supposed to be the market to push it to the target... but that isn't going to happen.

So Jobs does what he does best - spin spin spin.
