Microsoft cans key conference

Mobile and Embedded DevCon gone

SOFTWARE giant Microsoft has decided that it does not love its popular Mobile and Embedded DevCon any more and has pulled the plug.

The annual conference of mobile and embedded devices and applications developers was an important event for Vole’s Entertainment & Devices division. Last year more than 8,500 people showed up.

This year it was supposed to run in May in Las Vegas but Vole sent an email to punters saying it would be cancelled.

Mike Hall, a technical product manager at Microsoft, said that the decision was a bit sad, but only made sense since mobile and embedded development was becoming more mainstream and thus should be covered at the same events as other technologies.

The functions of the conference will be shifted to the Embedded Systems Conference Silicon Valley, which is due to be held in April in San Jose, and to Tech-Ed US 2008 conference in Orlando .

Vole promises that that there will be Windows Embedded tracks at both Tech-Ed and the Embedded Systems Conference. In addition, the Tech-Ed conference will include content related to the company's Windows Mobile technology.
