15 nanometre memory tested

Soon absolutely nothing will be standard

TOSHIBA has showed off a prototype memory unit which uses 15 nanometre thin lines, according to a report at nikkei.net.

The prototype was shown off at a chip conference in Washington DC earlier this week, the wire said.

The 15 nanometre process is about four years down the road and if it's capable of being manufactured, will lead to 100 gigabit flash memory chips, said nikkei.net.

Fifteen nanometres is equivalent to 0.005906 thou, or 0.000015 millimetres, and is the width of a very very very very very thin human hair which you can't see unless your eyesight is very very very very very good. µ

One silicon atom is about 0.12nm
(15nm/0.12nm or 125 atoms)
Thickness one human hair 100000nm.

So comparing it with hair even with a lot of 'very' is just wrong.

Eyesight

You won't be able to see it no matter how good your eyesight is. Features that small won't show up with visible light; you'll need to be able to see deep UV to view it.

Yea, in the world of mobility we will be more and more publishung and blogging from the pubs.

If there will be invented a computer program which detects amount of alcohol in the blood by analysing the texts, first this blog, and then a whole Inq will be great test bed. Cheers!

Its getting closer

Damn, 15nm is getting close to that magic number. Makes me wonder if "quantum dot" is alot closer then we are being told.

15NM=25% powered=perfect space & charge v

Any bigger & you just can't tell what that trickie v will do or sping, curl or heat. leakage is at minm um @15NM & effiencies of repeatable resistancies maximul.Just right amount of flex ,not too small & not too big.

Human Hair

I thik the reference is to BBC's (was is bbc?) article about Sillicon Valley,they stated that processors now is being made with a tecknology of 45 nm, or -as they said- the width of a human hair!

last nm

this is the last possible reduction of slicon.16mn chips would be comming out by 2012 and then bam no more reduction as we would have reached the physical limits of silicon.then BAM the IT indusrty along with the economy crashes.!this will happen by 2012-2013 and btw the arctic also melts by that time.total ice in te artic and greenland account to 10%.it would cause sea levels to rise by 5-8meters.

Too small for its own good

15nm is getting to that point where its not worth the effort to get any smaller, gate leakages, electromigration fabrication errors because a bit of crap contaminates the wafer... thats without trying to work out how the hell were going to cool down 4 billion transistors buzzing away at 5Ghz on a die the size of a 5c peice...

BRING ON CARBON BABY!!!
