AMD thrashed by Intel, shock
You probably weren't expecting this
A REPORT FROM market research firm Isuppli claimed that even though semiconductor sales are slowing, chip firm Intel continues to shine, if that's the right word.
Said Dale Ford, VP of market intelligence at Isuppli: "Intel exceeded the overall semiconductor industry growth rate of 4.1 percent in 2007 and massively outperformed its PC microprocessor rival, Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD) of the United States, whose sales are expected to decline by 22.7 percent for the year."
Ford said the other bright luminaries in the semiconductor firmament are Sony and Qualcomm.
He said that during 2007, Intel successfully defended much of the market share that it won from AMD during Q1 because its dual and quad core chipolatas were successful.
"This represents a major reversal of fortune compared to 2006, when AMD had the advantage with its popular dual-core microprocessors, allowing it to gain share from Intel," he said.
He said AMD's revenue decline will cause it to drop to 11th place in the semi ratings for 2007, down from number eight in 2006. He estimated that AMD's semi revs will fall this year to $5.8 billion, down from $7.5 billion in 2006.
Sony is doing well because of sales of chips for the Playstation 3, while Toshiba will tread water. Qualcomm, said Ford, will present the third laregest increase in revs amongst the top 20 chip companies. µ

I just hope AMD does better in 08/09 cause without them Intel will just get greedy, there is no reason for Intel to rush forward if no one is pushing them.Since AMD64 came out Intel has copied a lot of AMD's ideas.

Makes profits but loses critical email
Intel seems adept at turning a profit in a manner chillingly similar to that outlined in aLawsuit charging Monopolistic behavior towards them.
They can turn a profit but cannot comply with a Court Order to back-up and supply email messages to the defendant.
Why do We allow them to get away with such tactics ?
They are inexcusable abuses of the system ,
If they delay long enough they can bankrupt the competition.
Correcting stupid analysis math
AMD pulled in revenue of 5.8 Billion last year, not 7.8 as this idiot states. In addition, unless AMD has sold nothing this quarter, they will probably pull in somewhere north of 6.2 Billion for the year.What are you smoking?

Not Suprising
This isnt suprising really. AMD screwed a lot of customers a few years ago with the socket 939. That was enough to convince me to buy an Intel CPU for the first time in a decade.corruption in money

like a lotto winner on crack, AMD made it big, it went to their heads, they squandered their lead, and now they dine on pie in the sky, which is better than fishing in trash cans at least but they have still not remembered that the present is where they win or lose the future (and all that means for competing & getting priorities in the right order)its good to know there are some other IC fabricators out there who might be able to take up the Intel challenge, with the right IP. Who knows, maybe someone will buy out AMD before long!

939 irked me too
I was very pro AMD since earlier in the 90s.The short lived 939 socket p*ssed me off and I will be building my first intel based system this weekend(Q6600) with ASUS Maximux SE X38.
I don't want AMD to disappear or anything but I'm not gonna give them money atm either.
Revenue vs units shipped
The article talks about revenue and not about unit shipment. Doesn't market share refer to units? Not who's making the most profit, but who is selling the most units. Didn't AMD take market share back from Intel in the last quarter even though they had to sell the units for less because of the price war?
