OCZ picks up HypersonicPC

Memory manufacturer buys a PC manufacturer

IT SEEMS THAT IPO is a very good thing for a memory company. After OCZ Technology came up on LSE (London Stock Exchange), company switched into the seventh gear and started acquiring companies like there's no tomorrow.

After buying PC Power & Cooling, Ryan and the gang turned their heads on buying another player in the industry. Somewhat unexpected, lads did not buy another component vendor, but rather went for a complete system vendor.

HypersonicPC has quite a large offering of desktops, laptops, workstations and other high-performing machines. More importantly, the guys have advanced testing methods which are always in high regard when it comes to development of new products from OCZ's portfolio.

OCZ wanted to get a place where the company could test their new products and ideas for market. Technology Group obviously wants to expand into all regions of component manufacturing, and it will be interesting to see what's the next market segment OCZ will gun for.

World of graphics cards is a pretty hostile place these days, with razor-thin margins and relying on mercy of pre-manufactured boards by both AMD and Nvidia, motherboard business is also volatile. Thus, next on the market could be either expanding the storage or memory segments, or go for the cut-throat CE segment.

We talked with Ryan, CEO of the company and in a brief conversation he told us that the goal of the company is to go large and stay smart. More importantly, everything is about creating opportunities instead of waiting on for them. µ
