Asustek EEE prices leak out

SOURCES in Taiwan indicated prices for two models of Asustek EEEs, which are set for release in the middle of next month.
As we disclosed from the Intel Development Forum, these machines are considerably more expensive than the original $199, which are only available as part of a tender offer.
The sources claimed the EEE PC 701, with 4GB, webcam and pearl white will cost NT$11,650.
The 8GB model will cost NT$13,800 while the EEE PC 2G Surf will cost NT$7,999 and the 4G Surf NT$9,990.
If you want one of these machines with Windows, then that will cost you a fair bit more. µ

The NT$ that these Laptops are priced in, is that the NT (New Taiwan) Dollar.???If it is, that makes the $7,999 Dollar version £244 USD, or £120 GBP.
Or if you prefer, thats 43,400 HUF, 1,583 SEK, 289 CHF, or 69 FUK's.

I can buy a used P3 laptop for $250 here in the states. Will the performance be worth that much? They won't even be able to run XP very well will they?XP? No problem.
Are you kidding? A 900 Mhz dothan with a gig of ram will run XP just fine. Pretty much any Pentium M notebook dropped down to that speed when running off of battery power.The major limitations are the paltry 8 GB storage capacity, the major hit on battery life that a usb hard drive would cause, and the need for an external dvd rw drive.
