Just a few weeks before Leopard ends up in the shops, Apple's engineers have determined that the 800MHz PowerPC-based Macs ran Leopard too slow to be viable.

According to Apple Insider, the Cappuccino based outfit had wanted the operating system to run on a PowerPC G4, 800MHz or faster, or G5 processor.

The new spec will require "an Intel processor or a PowerPC G4, 867 MHz or faster, or G5 processor". Many might wonder what the 67MHz difference can really make. But the move is actually consigning to the rubbish bin of history the 800MHz PowerBook G4, Titanium, 800MHz PowerMac G4, Quicksilver, 800MHz iMac G4, 800MHz iBook G4, and 800MHz eMac.

Apple plans to dump PowerPC-based Macs entirely as part of its mvoe to Intel-based systems.
