AMD to bring in 55 nanometre, DX10.1 GPUs

WHILE NVIDIA IS showing off its summer lineup and preparing mobile 8800/8400, DAAMIT is talking to its partners about the next generation of products, even though technically, it still hasn't delivered on this one. The parts we're talking about here are scheduled to launch in first half of 2008, so bear with us.

The latest batch of roadmaps tells of details about several new parts, for example the RV670 and R670, and mobile ones, such as the M88, M86 and M82.

These three parts are nothing but a mobile attack based on fall refresh parts. The M88 is the highest performing contender, and sports DirectX 10.1, CrossFire support and UVD. Yes, we are mentioning UVD here - meaning that the upcoming R670 also has UVD. This part is of course supporting PCIe Gen2 so that CrossFire could utilize maximum bandwidth available. This part will be manufactured in 55nm half-node process over at TSMC, much like Nvidia's NB9E.

M86 is also a 55nm part, supporting DX10.1, UVD and Crossfire. If you just happen to have a DisplayPort device somewhere around, no worries - it will find its place since this chip is the second chip in the world to support both DisplayPort and HDMI. Yes, the first one also comes from ATi, and you will have to wait just a bit less for it. PCIe Gen2 is of course, supported by default.

M82 brings the DisplayPort to the thin'n'light segment, alongside DirectX 10.1 and PCIe Gen2.

All of the chips above are planning to use AMD's RD780M chipset, but you can expect mixing and matching with Montevino and current-gen M690G and Santa Rosa, since PCIe Gen2 is backwards compatible. No word about possible Crossfire support on PCIe Gen1, though. µ
