Free laptop giveaway stopped by cops

Security risk, the Old Bill said
CARPHONE WAREHOUSE'S attempt to give away 50 laptops in Southampton was kyboshed by the cops after the local constabulary described the scheme as a security risk.

According to the Southern Daily Echo, Carphone Warehouse was going to drop the lappies in hidden locations with the finders being keepers.

The police said that the giveaway constituted a security risk, so instead Carphone just gave away the laptops to Tom, to Dick and to Harry in the street.

The paper said folk had been hunting under bushes and in other places since daybreak. Some went equipped with metal detectors. There's more, here. µ
