Everex and Via team up for energy efficient notebook

TakeUp and StepNote
CHIP DEVELOPER VIA has teamed up with Everex Systems to release what they claim is the world's most energy efficient notebook.

The notebook, dubbed the StepNote NC1500, is the first Everex notebook to use the Via C7 -M processor. It comes equipped with a 15-inch widescreen display, built in wireless LAN, a DVD burner and 1.5GHz performance at a considerably low 12W peak power, boasts Everex.

A 60GB 4200 PATA hard drive is sported by the notebook too, along with 512MB of DDR2 SDRAM memory. It's equipped with VIA Enhanced PowerSaver technology and VIA's Twin Turbo, which allows the laptop to switch between intermediate power states, supposedly giving users 20% longer battery life over "comparable systems."

SpokeBloke for Everex John Lin thinks the new notebook will pave the way for a whole new category of energy efficient portable computers. "Unlike products which rely on costly, power hungry processors or potentially hazardous batteries, the NC1500 provides a true, no-compromise alternative," John warbled.

If you fancy yourself a NC1500, head on over to the Everex site. It's available for just under $500. µ
