Music giant bangs the DRM
SONY BMG chief executive Rolf Schmidt-Holtz has told German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung that his company wants to launch an unlimited access, monthly subscription music download service.
Sony's gargantuan back calalogue would be available to monthly subscribers for a fee of between six and eight euros a month. Schmidt-Holtz also suggested that, unlike most online music subs services, some of the content could be retained indefinitely, even after subscriptions had expired.
"The simplest option would be a flat rate under which a monthly payment would provide access to our entire music catalogue for all digital players, including Apple's Ipod," he added.
