Hey suckers, thanks for nothing

SHOPS ARE starting to heavily discount HD-DVD recorders in an attempt to reduce their stock mountains.

Don’t expect Toshiba to refund you the difference between the new prices and the old prices though – that would be a sacrifice too great for the firm to make.

According to nikkei.net, prices of HD-DVD recorders in Tokyo have dropped to the same price as ancient DVD recorders.

The same wire suggests that Toshiba has attempted to save face by announcing a huge investment in two fabs building NAND flash memory chips.

It may have saved face with investors by doing so, but the world+dog probably just wonders what the heck NAND flash is, and couldn’t give a hoot about a phoney war between two formats that don’t matter much anyway in the longer view – that is to say two years down the line. µ
