But Playstation 3 continues to flounder

JAPANESE GIANT Sony turned in a big net profit for its financial second quarter but it's based more on sales of cameras, PCs and flat panel screens than its pesky Playstation 3.

The firm made a net profit of ¥73.7 billion on group revenues of ¥2.083 trillion - turning around the ¥20.8 billion loss it made in the same quarter last year.

Flash bang wallopThe loss last year was partly accounted for by the massive battery recall following the exploding battery fiasco which happened on its own doorstep.

However, its Playstation 3 division continues to bleed money, and taken on its own accounted for an operating loss of ¥96.7 billion.

Bravia fat panel screens, Vaios and its digital cameras and VCRs continued to sell well. µ
