Intel gets bifurcated in AMD case

THE JUDGE in the AMD antitrust case against Intel has been presented with a proposed order over the matter of lost evidence.

Special Master Poppiti, who has the unenviable task of sorting out the reams of evidence, entered an order on the 20th June called the "Bifurcation Order" which means that after Chipzilla has found documents missing in the case, they'll be handed over to a group of custodians.

The other part of the bifurcation means that the non-missing Intel files will go through a process originally agreed.

AMD, Intel and the lawyers for the numerous coat tail class action cases have agreed that Chipzilla need only look for .pst archives that contain documents relating to the case. A .pst archive is, of course, a Microsoft Outlook file format.

It's all very messy and no doubt very, very expensive. We wonder how much the case has cost AMD in lawyer fees since the case started in June 2005?

Sealed evidence has started appearing in the dockets, meaning that this is not going to be much fun until it gets to court. µ
