IBM man to be AMD top techie

Newisys chap replaces Weber

AN IBM chief technology officer has joined AMD, replacing Fred Weber who has left the company.

Phil Hester worked for the PC division of IBM for over 20 years, and then founded startup Newisys, one of the early adopters of AMD Opteron chips.

AMD said Weber left to pursue other opportunities, but sources said his move has been planned for some six months. µ
