Storage Saves on space and power, apparently
A DEVELOPMENT team, led by Fujitsu, has come up with the world's first enterprise-class serial attached SCSI (SAS) array.

Called the Supermicro M28E, the array features 2.5-inch rather than standard 3.5-inch disks. Fujitsu says this frees up space and reduces energy overheads. It says it has had endless feedback from users saying that floorspace is at a premium and electricity bills far too high.

The Supermicro M28E features eight 36Gg or 73Gb Fujitsu drives and a host bus adapter from LSI Logic. It will process 3Gb of data per second, contrasting favourably with parallel SCSI arrays, which measure data throughput in Mb per second.

The product is to ship immediately through Bell Microproducts. µ
