Competition is the key in this game. I doubt we'll see this in any $200 desktops anytime soon, but it would be nice...Whee!
Score one for the underdog! Taken on the face of this article, this is quite exciting news...although whether or not Via can execute a significant market-taking program is highly questionable.However...the one thing I have been thinking is that Nvidia should buy Via. Before this article, I kept thinking "nah, Via has CPU stuff, but it's all low-end embedded stuff. Won't help them." But now...

Nice coverage and article, nice VIA chip too :)Thinking about the increase of size,
for which you say : "This may sound like a massive bit of bloat,..." i did some picturing. Since the packaging is square a doubling means cut it in 4
stripes and attach each of
them at each of its (the squeare's) sides. What you got? A squeare expanded a bit on each side, Not that bloated i think :-)
